With just over a week to go, all eyes are on the RX 480 from AMD. Set to launch on June 29th, the new Polaris GPU from the red team is set to offer an impressive performance per dollar solution to mainstream gamers. As with all product launches, pre-orders inevitably start popping up just before the launch. This time around, several sites have started posting their pre-orders for the RX 480 and others have started getting ready.
The first site to have real pre-orders up is not surprisingly from China. From JD.com, you can pick from a selection of 8GB reference models that all cost 1999 Yuan. This is about 310 USD at current exchange rates. Of course, given that these are pre-orders and come before the official launch, I expect launch pricing to a bit lower. You also have to keep in mind that most places that are not the US tend to experience higher prices. It’s also likely that the price is a placeholder since all the cards from different AIB partners are the same.
Several other retailers have also posted up pre-orders generally ranging in the 250 to 300 USD range. Others like NCIX have created RX sections for their site but haven’t posted any cards yet. Hopefully at launch, we’ll see some lower prices and a good amount of stock.
