AMD RX 480 Specifications Leaked

Just a couple hours before AMD is set to hold their press conference, specifications for the upcoming Polaris GPU have been leaked. The RX 480 was recently just leaked and earlier,we found out it will retail for $199. According to the latest leak, the RX 480 may offer the best performance per dollar for this coming generation. From the leaked slide, AMD is claiming 5.5 TFLOPS of performance.
For comparison, the R9 390 has 5.1 TFLOPS, the R9 390X 5.9 TFLOPS, and the GTX 1070 6.5 TFLOPs. At half the cost for near GTX 1070 performance, the RX 480 looks like it will score the value crown for midrange GPU. Other specifications include 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM over a 256bit bus and a single 6pin PCIe power connector. This means TDP won;t be any higher than 150W.
The big unknown going into the RX 480 is what AMD has done under the hood. According to their releases, AMD has reworked quite a lot of GCN with their 4th generation iteration. This means despite having a lower theoretical performance than the R9 390X and real world performance may be enough to rival the GTX 1070. The only disappointment, if this leak were real, is the lack of OC headroom with the single 6pin. However, custom cards will resolve this issue quite nicely. We’ll bring you more information from the press conference live as it happens later.
