With AMD looking likely to announce the launch of both the Radeon 6700 and XT graphics cards within the next couple of months, there is clearly a lot of anticipation from consumers to see how these new GPUs will align themselves based on the performance and prices of other ‘new’ graphics cards released (from both AMD and Nvidia) within the last six months. Well, that and perhaps availability, given that actually finding a new graphics card for sale at the moment, for a reasonable price, is about as rare as rocking horse poop.
Well, following a Twitter post by user ‘@aschilling‘, we might potentially have some pretty significant news. Specifically, a loose indication of a release date and, more so, further apparent confirmation that the 6700 XT might be coming with 12GB of VRAM.
Now, for those of you with good memories, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen the 6700 XT being touted as coming with 12GB of VRAM. In fact, one of the earliest indications was back in November. As such, we can’t profess that this theory (because it can’t yet be confirmed as fact) is anything close to being new. Given that this is a completely separate source from that prior leak, while it could potentially all just be guesswork, we apparently now have at least two indications that the 6700 XT (and possibly also the standard 6700) might come with a 12GB VRAM configuration.
Given the VRAM configurations of the current ‘higher specification’ AMD Radeon 6000 graphics cards, it isn’t exactly too wild of a leap of the imagination to suggest that the 6700 XT will almost certainly be packing around 12GB of VRAM. I mean, it’s 8GB or 12GB, and we daresay that the former may be reserved for a lower-spec GPU such as the 5600 XT. – As for when we’ll know for sure, however, well, there we have some conflicting information.
You see, in the original leak surrounding this news, it was suggested that AMD would launch the 6700 XT in January, and, as you can probably tell given today’s date, this hasn’t happened. However, this new leak is pointing more towards the end of Q1, which also ties into other speculation of an early to late March announcement. – As for more concrete details though, well, at this point we’re simply waiting on AMD to give the 6700 XT the green light! It’s definitely going to be interesting to see where the land lies with this model, though!
