AMD RX Vega Custom Graphics Card Will Ship in August

After months of waiting, AMD is finally ready to release their Vega graphics cards. According to various reports, the expectation is for Vega to arrive sometime this summer in 2017. To get ready for the launch, AMD is already getting the logistical chain set up and sending over silicon to their partners. Just like with most launches, the custom models will arrive slightly later. However, they should still be in time for at least September at the latest.

According to the latest information, AMD’s AIB partners will start shipping their custom models in early August. In most cases, there is about a month of lead time between shipping and retail availability. This mean custom Vega will arrive in stores sometime in September. In order to hit the shipping date, AMD is also reportedly shipping silicon to their partners this week. This is about right given previous GPU launches.

At Least 2 Vega GPUs at Launch

At launch, the expectation is for AMD to release two Vega models. As we all know, Vega is just Vega 10 for now which has been teased quite bit by AMD. The two chips are the full Vega 10 XT GPU and a cut-down Vega 10 Pro. We already know from Apple that there will be Vega 64 and Vega 56 models which will be used in the iMac Pro. We also have the upcoming Vega Frontier Edition as well.

The top model is expected to perform faster than the GTX 1080 but specifics are lacking. We have seen some Vega 10 products out already but only theoretical performance. All the architectural tweaks will only stretch their legs in real world games and benchmarks. As one of most highly anticipated launches in recent memory, let’s hope AMD can deliver on their promises.
