Ryzen has gotten off to one very impressive start this year. We were blown away by the blazing performance and competitive prices of the Ryzen 7 series. Following that, we saw incredible value and gaming performance from their mid-range Ryzen 5 processors. Finally, we’re onto their most affordable Ryzen processors to date, the Ryzen 3.
With incredibly affordable prices, the Ryzen 3 chips are sure to be a big hit for many system builders. However, can their quad-core designs still deliver the grunt needed for modern gaming? We’re certainly going to put that to the test. Remember, every Ryzen CPU is unlocked, and with a B350 or X370 chipset motherboard, you’ll be able to push their performance to the limit, even on these budget R3 chips!
Now, some very interesting things are going on here at eTeknix right now. I’m currently re-testing all Ryzen chips, and even the new Intel chips we reviewed earlier this month. The test bench has a GTX 1080 Ti on it now, not the 980 Ti we had been using. Some software is gone, but we’ve added new tests like PCMark 10, more games, and we now test both 1080P and 4K performance. We also test pretty much everything at stock, then overclocked, to give a complete picture of what a consumer can expect from their new processors. Unfortunately, the Ryzen 7, and Ryzen 5 chips are still being tested, and will not be included in this review.
Graphics settings, BIOS version, Windows updates, DDR4 memory kits, graphics card, and more are all different. I must stress that the results in this review are in no way comparable to our previous reviews. We’ll add a link below to the re-tests once we have the full suite of reviews live!
Check out our reviews of previous Ryzen chips! The Ryzen R7 1800X, 1700X and 1700. Then we’ve got the Ryzen R5 series 1600X, 1500X, 1600, and 1400. Now let’s test the Ryzen R3!
