AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Gaming Benchmarks Leaked vs i5 7400 and Pentium G4560

AMD’s Ryzen 5 CPUs are due in stores on April 11th but it seems that some countries are already selling the processor  ahead of schedule. That is how YouTuber Santiago Santiago was able to test the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 OC and benchmark it against an Intel Core i5 7400 as well as an Intel Pentium G4560 processor even before some reviewers were able to get their hands on the sample.

In the comparison video below, the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 with its 3.2GHz base clock and 3.4GHz boost clock was also overclocked to 3.8GHz. The 3.0/3.5GHz base/boost clock Intel Core i5-7300 and 3.5GHz Intel Pentium G4560 were left at stock. Currently, the Intel i5 7400 is priced at 182 USD while the Ryzen 5 1400 is much more affordable with only a 169 USD MSRP. Both processors have a 65W TDP and are quad-core CPUs (the Ryzen is 8-threaded however, while the i5 7400 only has four threads) . The Pentium G4560 on the other hand is a dual-core/quad-thread CPU with a TDP of only 54W.

The benchmarks were all games including Battlefield 1 DX12, Fallout 4, GTA V, Hitman DX12, Just Cause 3, Assassin’s Creed Unity, The Witcher 3, and the Rise of the Tomb Raider DX12. The video card used is an AMD Radeon RX 480 and the DDR4 RAM was set to 2666MHz with an ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 motherboard with 2.20 BIOS update (AGESA enhancement) on all test platforms running Windows 10 Pro x64. Recorded with AverMedia Live Gamer Extreme using a different PC to record so there is no FPS hit.

What is surprising is that the Ryzen 5 1400 was able to come close to the i5 7400 in Battlefield 1 performance at 3.8GHz but it also had so much more room with the CPU usage only reaching just over 60% on average while the Intel is running at 99%. This could mean of course that there is still room for improvement and that the additional CPU processing power can be used for smoother streaming.  The result was the same in other tests, such as GTA V, although the Intel i5 7400 put up much higher frame rates.
