Earlier in the month, AMD revealed their upcoming plans for the new year. Along with a roadmap update, AMD announced their new Zen+ processors. The new lineup is set to debut as part of Ryzen 2 later this year. The new CPUs will also arrive with a new X470 chipset and motherboard. Luckily for us, it looks like they will be arriving very soon. Furthermore, a Ryzen 5 2600 and an ASUS X470 motherboard have just surfaced.
The focus, of course, is on the new CPU. AMD is keeping their timeline of releasing new updates every year. This is a good trend to keep up and something the Bulldoze family failed at. Ryzen 5 2600 replaces the old Ryzen 5 1600 released last year. From the SiSoft Sandra listing, the CPU has a 3.4 GHz base clock which is 200 MHz faster than its predecessor. This is well within expectations for a refresh.
The new CPU was also tested on a new ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero motherboard. This is a motherboard with the new X470 chipset. The new chipset aims to supplement the current X370 chipset with a higher end focus. The key upgrades are more PCIe lanes for expansion purposes. X470 will also feature better memory support, lower power consumption. The Zen+ CPUs, therefore, make a good match with the more efficient 12nm process.
For now, the Ryzen 5 2600 we see is still an engineering sample. However, the close timing to launch suggests that AMD has finalized the design. Seeing a 200MHz boost and perhaps lower power is good. There is also a chance that the boost clock will get a bigger boost than 200MHz as well. Hopefully, we will have more leaks and CPUs revealed before the release later this year. Some Raven Ridge APU leaks would be great for sure.
