AMD Ryzen 5800X3D Already Sold Out Just Days After Release

Released on April 20th, it was always suspected that the AMD Ryzen 5800X3D was going to be a pretty popular processor with consumers. With good reason too as, against a lot of expectations, it managed to back up pretty much all of the pre-launch hype and marketing claims by being legitimately faster than the Intel i9-12900K in gaming. – Put simply, at its MSRP of $449.99, and with the exception of the i9-12900KS (which costs nearly twice as much), this is categorically the fasting gaming processor you can currently buy… Sort of!

Why sort of? – Well, so far as we can tell, despite the fact that it’s only been on the retail market for a few days, the AMD Ryzen 5800X3D appears to be completely sold out!

Having checked a number of major and even relatively minor retail sources (mostly in the US due to it primarily having its first major stock drop there), we are not currently able to find a single AMD Ryzen 5800X3D available to purchase. – Even more surprisingly though, it doesn’t appear that scalpers have gobbled them all up either. – Sure, there are a few available to purchase on eBay, but not many. (Even Amazon has zero third-party sellers).

Put simply, it would appear that the reason the AMD Ryzen 5800X3D is currently out of stock is that people have rushed out in their droves to buy it! – And with the performance it offers, you can hardly blame them!

What Do We Think?

There’s been no indication to suggest that the AMD Ryzen 5800X3D hit the market in low quantities. – In other words, this isn’t like the situation with graphics cards. The reason the 5800X3D is out of stock is due to masses of people purchasing it to use themselves! – I mean, there are no other words, despite coming relatively late in the 5000 series’ current-gen lifespan, the 5800X3D might be one of AMD’s biggest singular successes the Ryzen platform has ever seen. – For people with an AM4 motherboard currently looking for an upgrade prior to the Ryzen 7000 AM5 transition later this year, it’s honestly hard to look past the 5800X3D at the moment.

All going well, 5800X3D stock will continue to drop at a fairly consistent rate over the coming weeks/months. As above, there is nothing to suggest that the manufacturing supply for this particular CPU is bad. – If you want to grab it sooner rather than later though, diligence and retailer vigilance is clearly going to be your friend here.
