When AMD announced the Ryzen 7 1800X, they weren’t shy about calling it the fastest 8 core 16 thread processor on the market. While it appears that claim is true for stock performance, it looks like Ryzen manages to hold up even in overclocking benches. From a series of extreme overclocking runs done just today, the 1800X has managed to snag the unofficial crown for Cinebench R15 world record.
From various leaked shots of the runs, the 1800X managed a whopping 5.2 GHz overclock on all 8 scores. Of course, this is only possible due to LN2 cooling bringing the temperatures down to about -200c with an insane 1.875 V on the core. This managed scores ranging from 2336 to 2449 points in Cinebench R15. This puts it ahead of the current 8core world record holder, the i7 5960X clocked at 6.0 GHz which scored only 2445 points.
If these numbers become officially recognised, AMD will have made one of the biggest comebacks in processor history. Not only have they managed to snag the stock performance crown but also the overclocking performance crown as well. What’s more, they managed to do so with a clock speed deficit, showing off the incredible efficiency of the Zen architecture. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on one.
