AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Delivers in SiSoft Sandra Benchmarks

With Ryzen review samples making their rounds, it’s inevitable for more leaks to happen. Building on earlier SiSoftware Sandra benchmark numbers, we now have even more Ryzen results to share. This time, it’s the flagship 8 core 16 thread Ryzen 7 1800X in a total of 3 tests. We have Processor Multi-Media, Processor Cryptography (High Security) and Processor Multi-Core Efficiency.

First up we have the Processor Multi-Media test which runs a variety of instructions for a multi-media processing workload. Coming in at 461.13Mpix/s, the 1800X is a tad higher than the Ryzen 1700 at 435Mpix/s and giving it a ranking of 1,906. While a strong showing, it once again highlights some architectural differences compared to Intel which manages to place a bit higher.

Next up is the Processor Cryptography (High Security) which tests the speed of various cryptographic algorithms and hashing speeds. The 1800X manages a score of 14.88GB/s which is a decent lead over the 12.22GB/s and 11.58GB/s of the comparable i7 6900K and i7 5960X respectively. It looks like AMD has managed to due some good work on the dedicated units modern CPUs have to do encryption and hashing. It’s a stark contrast tot he dismal performance Bulldozer had in this area.

Last of all we have Processor Multi-Core Efficiency which tests inter-core latency and bandwidth. This exposes the performance of communication between the cores through the interconnects, cache and me memory controller. The 1800X scores an excellent 45.82GB/s but is still longer than the comparable Intel HEDT chips. This is likely due to a combination of factors like AMD’s 4 core CCX design, less L3 cache, dual channel memory and AMD’s traditional issues with cache.

Overall, the Ryzen 1800X paints a picture of strong performance in SiSoft Sandra. As a synthetic test, we can’t draw too many conclusions but things are looking great for AMD. All we have to wait for now is for some real world performance numbers.
