AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D to Hit Retailers This Month?

AMD logo

Representing one of their biggest product launches at CES 2022, AMD confirmed the upcoming launch of a brand new Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor. With AMD claiming it to be the ‘world’s fastest gaming processor’, interest in the CPU has clearly been high and particularly for those possibly looking for one last big hurrah from their AM4 chipset platform. – To date, however, very little information has appeared online suggesting exactly when this new processor might be released.

Following a Twitter post by reliable leak source ‘@greymon55‘, however, they have suggested that the 5800X3D might be set for a general retail release before the end of this month!

According to the source, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D has started shipping from AMD’s packaging centres (basically, where the CPU is put in its box). This, by proxy, would suggest that these brand new processors are not merely ready to go, but they are in the process, right now, of heading to retail stores around the world!

Although AMD is still yet to officially confirm a release date (beyond Spring), the fact that they are seemingly in transit does seem to strongly indicate that an official confirmation within the next 7-14 days appears incredibly likely!

The World’s Fastest Gaming Processor?

Featuring its new 3D-cache technology (which has allowed for a total of around 100MB of cache memory) the gaming performance of the 5800X3D does sound pretty impressive. In terms of it being the ‘fastest gaming processor in the world’ though, well, while the Intel i9-12900K will clearly have something to say on that matter if AMD does manage to top that CPU, the chances are that it may only hold that title for a month at best.

Why? Well, lest we forget that the Intel i9-12900KS is also set for release in the very near future, and, specifications wise, there is very little to suggest that this won’t be head and shoulders above everything else. – Where AMD may score a huge victory, however, is in its highly familiar territory of the price tag. With the i9-12900K currently costing around $600, and the i9-12900KS expected to be in the region of an eye-watering $800, if AMD can bring the 5800X3D to the market for something like $599, it could well prove to be a huge success for the tech giant. Especially, as I noted above, to those perhaps looking for one last potentially huge upgrade to their current AM4 system. And yes, following a recent BIOS release by Gigabyte, it does appear that the 5800X3D will be supported on all major 400 and 500 series motherboards!

So, while the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D may not hold that ‘world’s faster gaming processor’ title for long, something tells me that this is still looking set to be an excellent CPU, if, as above, AMD manages to get the pricing right!
