While AMD has got its initial series of Ryzen 7000 processors well established on the market (even if they’re not selling that well), there will clearly be other CPUs from the series introduced at some point over the coming months. Of these, one will undoubtedly be the Ryzen 7 7700. – Following a report via TechPowerUp, however, if this is the processor you’ve set your sights on, then you might potentially be set for a disappointment as leaked information has suggested that while a Ryzen 7 7700 (non-X) will be released, it may be an OEM-only exclusive.
While understood to be featuring the same core/thread count as its 7700 X counterpart, the 7700 will primarily act as a lower TDP option with clock speeds to match. Coming likely with a low-power(ish) requirement of circa 90W, it’s understood that the CPU will primarily be of interest to OEM partners. Hence, why it might be only made exclusively available to them (low-power CPUs are popular as they don’t require much in the way of cooling – and with the Ryzen 7000 series all coming with integrated graphics – this is yet another tempting proposition).
Samples will, of course, make their way onto the market as people buy pre-built systems merely to check out the CPU. In terms of a general consumer release though, while a Ryzen 7 7700 might expect, don’t expect to ever see it hit a retail shelf. Well, not by itself at least!
