AMD Ryzen 9 7950X Can Reportedly Boost up to A Whopping 5.85GHz

With AMD expected to formally launch their Ryzen 7000 processors, well… today, there is clearly a lot of hype building for their next-generation releases and particularly their Ryzen 9 7950X flagship CPU. – With information recently appearing online suggesting it’ll offer huge generation-on-generation performance gains, while more general consumer interest might be more focused on models such as the 7600X or 7700X, it’s hard to deny that the 7950X is looking to be an incredibly tasty proposition.

And following a report via Videocardz, we have fresh information that certainly seems to be backing that up. Namely, information has appeared online suggesting that the AMD Ryzen 7950X may offer a boost clock speed of a completely insane 5.85GHz.

With this news, it seems that top-tier models from both Intel and AMD are effectively fighting it out in terms of the fastest boost clock speeds. With the i9-13900K currently rumoured to be around 5.8GHz, however, this news would clearly seem to suggest that AMD might just barely pip them out in this very specific top spot.

How can the 7950X achieve this thought? Well, it’s understood that the new Zen4 PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) technology will allow the CPU to hit its F-max presuming that, overall (and simplified somewhat), temperatures on the processor are fairly stable. – With this in mind though, a 5.85GHz boost clock does sound more than a little toasty which would clearly suggest that having a high-quality CPU cooler would clearly be to the consumer’s advantage and potentially may even allow for better overall performance as it keeps temperatures lower which will allow that boost clock to be maintained for longer.
