AMD‘s Senior Technical Marketing Manager, Donny Woligroski, discussed the highly anticipated Ryzen 9000 series. While these new chips show significant improvements, they won’t outperform the specialized Ryzen 7000X3D models in gaming, though the gap is narrower than before.
The Ryzen 9000 chips, announced recently, are not expected to surpass the gaming performance of the previous generation’s 7000X3D chips. The Ryzen 7000X3D series remains the best for gaming, but future Ryzen 9000X3D models might change this.
Despite not claiming the fastest gaming chip title, the Ryzen 9950X performs impressively, beating Intel’s Core i9-14900K by about 11% on average in gaming. However, it still lags behind AMD’s own Ryzen 7 7800X3D, known for its superior gaming performance.
The Ryzen 9000 series boasts a 16% IPC gain and faster cache speeds, contributing to better productivity performance. AMD is also working on enhanced 3D V-Cache technology, hinting at exciting updates for future X3D chips.
These advancements suggest that while the current Ryzen 9000 chips are closer in performance to the X3D models, the real gains for gamers will come with the next generation of 3D V-Cache CPUs. Until then, the Ryzen 7000X3D series remains the top choice for gaming enthusiasts.
