The AMD Ryzen processor, a genuine competitor with Intel’s high-end market, is dropping in price. In recent weeks prices of the Ryzen processors have been falling significantly.
It is nothing to do with the product, which we at eTeknix find to be excellent. However, a reported recent retail war has seen prices for the Ryzen 1700X drop below £350.00. So now might be the time for a savvy shopper to start their Ryzen build. The war has also seen the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 dip below £200.
While the Ryzen 5 1700x is the ‘poster boy’ of the Ryzen library for price and performance ratio. As can be seen above, the Ryzen 5 1600 is an excellent option for performance and price. For under £200 you’re not going to find a better processor.
Wait for Vega…
Sorry, bad joke. The way the prices are dropping and with the motherboard market catching up. Yes, this is set to be the Summer of Ryzen. It was recently reported that AMD, for the first time in 10 years, had finally won a market share back from Intel. With such positive news, AMD is making all the right moves and this price war is set to ignite a lot of those, like me, who are awaiting their next big build.
I know, I only just I joked about waiting for Vega. But we also can not deny its pending Summer release as well.
While Intel certainly is not too worried about AMD Ryzen, I would expect to see AMD’s market share increase of 2.2% jump even further next year. The red-hot (not a joke about the recent overheating issues with it. Well, maybe a little.) Intel i7 7700k is still retailing for over £300. Although this is an excellent processor, the Ryzen option is going to be somewhat more tempting for many.
The future may be red, and that isn’t bad!
