When AMD first revealed the RX 480 to us, the expected launch date and NDA lifting date was June 29th. That would be when reviews for the first Polaris 10 GPU would drop and cards become available in store. Since then, AMD has added two more Polaris GPUs, the RX 460 and RX 470. According to an invitee, AMD is hosting a conference call before the launch on June 21st to talk more about Polaris.
From the source, it appears that the contents of the conference call will be under NDA. This would be the second major AMD meeting to talk about Polaris behind closed doors. Given the close timing to the launch, its either when reviewers get their final briefing or potentially more details for the RX 460 and RX 470, which have thus far received less attention, will be shared. There is a possibility of an early NDA lift like Nvidia has done, with reviews dropping before the cards but that’s still an unknown at this point.
The big unknown for the RX 480 and its siblings is the performance. Though AMD has shared some numbers with us, nothing has been nailed down just yet. Depending on the final performance, the new Polaris 10 GPU will either be a stunning release or merely a notable one. Hopefully, we’ll get more information out of the conference call.
