AMD Sets New Records in x86 CPU Market Share for Q1 2024

AMD has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in the x86 CPU market, reaching its highest-ever market share in the first quarter of 2024. This significant accomplishment highlights AMD’s increasing dominance in the processor industry, which has seen a consistent rise since the introduction of its Zen architecture in 2017.
Desktop and Server Gains
AMD’s desktop market share has climbed to an impressive 23.9%, the highest in over a decade. This surge is largely due to the popularity of its Ryzen 8000 series processors among PC manufacturers. On the server side, AMD has also seen substantial growth, with its EPYC server processors pushing the company’s market share to 23.6%. This increase reflects a strong demand for AMD’s high-core-count EPYC processors in data centers and enterprise environments.
Challenges and Opportunities in Mobile
While AMD has faced challenges in the mobile PC sector, losing some market share to Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs, it still managed a slight increase in overall client CPU market share to 20.6%. This was driven by strong sales of its Ryzen 7040 series processors, indicating a steady demand for AMD-powered laptops.
Looking ahead, AMD appears well-positioned to maintain its growth trajectory in the competitive CPU market. With a robust lineup of processors that appeal to both consumers and enterprises, AMD continues to challenge Intel’s market dominance and may increase its market presence further in the upcoming quarters.
