AMD Six Screen Eyefinity Review

Final ThoughtsThere are several areas that we need to focus on and the first would be the overall setup. Whilst the installation went fairly well, it did cause its fair share of problems. The first involves the clamp system, which if you care about your desk, we’d advise putting something down or getting a stand style bracket instead as this one did mark our desk, but we used a cheap piece of MDF, therefore we weren’t too worried.

The installation wasn’t exactly a neat affair, and that was expected with six power cables and six DVI cables of which we also had to use DVI to DisplayPort adapters on four of the screens, which obviously adds into the cost factor side of things.

Speaking of cost, you have to remember, this isn’t a bit of kit that you can buy just on a whim, as it does involve researching and a fair wedge of money.

From the feedback of eTeknix staff and other trusted members, and of course myself, it seems we were all satisfied with the overall performance of the 6950 DirectCUII from Asus, especially with the settings we used. Obviously using six monitors is going to take its toll on any graphics card, so kudos goes out to AMD and Asus on developing a card that can not only handle six screens in Eyefinity, but also that it can handle on reasonable quality settings whilst at a playable frame-rate in a variety of games.

Now I guess it all comes down to personal preference and opinion at the end of the day and I’m sure you’re all keen as to what we thought and vice versa as we’re keen to know your opinions on the setup and performance.

I’m finding it really hard to sum up into words as it’s truly an amazing experience and I definitely think it’s one of those things that has to been seen to really get the true experience from because it simply is breathtaking. Yes it is expensive but we know a lot of the hardcore gamers out there really don’t mind spending that extra bit of money to get the best from their system and you really can’t get better than this unless you add a fantastic surround sound setup or use some amazing headphones like the G930, which I can honestly say work together so well.

The bottom line is; if you have the money to get a setup like this, then I’d wholeheartedly advise you to do so, and if you haven’t got the money for it, then start saving.

Pros:

  • Looks amazing
  • Fantastic gaming experience
  • Not just for gaming, movies look spectacular too
  • Playable framerate even on max settings
  • Will make your friends jealous
  • Easy to install

Cons:

  • Expensive setup
  • Lots of cables can look untidy
  • Specialist card needed
