AMD StoreMI – The Best Feature of Ryzen Gen 2?

How Much Does it Cost?
StoreMI is free to use and is available to download from AMD here. However, it will only work on the newer 4xx series of AM4 motherboards, and it’s unlikely it’ll make its way to older chipsets.
Overview
So there we have it, it’s something AMD has been big on promoting as a major feature for their second generation Ryzen CPU launch and 4xx series motherboard chipsets. However, I think it’s a feature many users have been overlooking, at least from the users I’ve chatted with. It takes minutes to configure, and the performance gains are certainly worth it. We do expect that with more extended use and a larger pool of applications being installed on those drives, it’ll become better and better.
Can I Undo It?
That’s the fun part, you can un-merge the two drives. However, it will take a few hours for the drives to shift their respective data to one or the other. Unlike traditional RAID drives, which can’t be undone without a format, StoreMI is not “permanent” and gives you all the flexibility to swap or upgrade a drive in the future, while protecting your data.
Added Value
Buying a 6TB SSD just isn’t a reality for those who don’t have a Scrooge McDuck money vault. However, buying a high-performance NVMe drive of 250-500 GB isn’t going to break the bank too much, then adding your existing HDD or buying one for the job isn’t that expensive now either. You get all the speed, all of the storage, and retain flexibility for future upgrades too. Best of all, you can build them as a boot drive or as a second hard drive. Of course, boot drive or fast second storage is a personal choice, but it’s nice to have that freedom.
