AMD Teases Vega Architecture for the New Year

At the recent New Horizon event, AMD showed off their first demo of their new Vega architecture. During the event, we saw an unnamed Vega GPU running Star Wars Battlefront. AMD also noted that Vega was on track and on time as well. Since then, we have not heard any new information from AMD. However, this changes today with a new teaser from the company about Vega.

Along with the teaser image, the Radeon RX Twitter account added this short blurb “New Year. New architecture”. This pretty much confirms what we all already know that Vega will launch in the new year. However, the timing might indicate that Vega may be coming sooner rather than later. Some rumors have pointed to a CES2017 launch or at least reveal which is happening within a month.

So far, what we do know about Vega is somewhat limited. The key addition, of course, is the use of HBM2 which points to high-performance chips. We also know from the new Instinct accelerators that AMD has also made based on Vega that there have been some major changes to the underlying GCN architecture. Hopefully, this teaser means we will be getting both more leaks and teasers in the coming days and months.
