AMD Teases Vega Launch Venue

After launching Polaris this summer, AMD is expected to follow-up with a new set of GPU releases called Vega. Alternatively rumoured for either a late 2016 or early 2017 launch, the new GPUs are set to use HBM2 combined with GCN 4.0 for top tier performance. In a surprise twist, AMD has released their first teaser for their launch. Unfortunately, the teaser brings far more questions than it brings answers.

The last teaser was from Koduri but this time, we’re getting one from Chris Hook, Sr. Director, Global Marketing and Public Relations, Radeon Technologies Group at AMD. With the caption “This is the Vega launch venue. Shh, don’t tell the press”, Hook posted an image of descript abandoned warehouse. Honestly, I have no idea what to make of it if it’s a serious teaser or just a joke to make fun of the various rumours.

If we take the teaser at face value, it could mean that Vega still needs quite a bit of work like the warehouse before it’s presentable to the world. This jives with the official roadmap which points to the very tail end of 2016 or early 2017 for the launch. On the flip side, AMD has chosen to use some surprising launch venues before and a quick reno to make part of the warehouse presentable wouldn’;t be out of the picture. With Pascal dominating the high-end, AMD can’t afford to wait too long to release their counter. Hopefully, we’ll see Vega sooner rather than later.
