AMD Threadripper

Earlier in the month, AMD revealed their new high-end Threadripper CPUs. Sitting above the current Ryzen lineup, AMD has since confirmed that Threadripper is more than just a codename. It will be a full-on brand just like Vega, Ryzen or Radeon. The company also revealed that the new CPUs would get an official launch at Computex this week, with availability starting in Summer 2017. Ahead of the Computex debut, some listings for Threadripper have popped up online.

Greek online retailer Skroutz has revealed two new Threadripper SKUs. We have both the Threadripper 1998 and 1998X, both of whom are 16 core parts with 32 threads. The Threadripper 1998 comes with a 3.2 GHz base clock with an unknown boost speed. The Threadripper 1998X clocks a bit higher at 3.5 GHz with the boost clock unspecified as well. Both chips will use the new AMD socket SP3r2 which is the new 4,094 pin LGA socket.

Compared to regular Ryzen, Threadripper offers a lot more high-end features like I/O and memory bandwidth on top of having more cores. Beyond the top end 1998, we have 1977, 1956 and 1955. These also come with their various X variants as well. The chips will likely feature 14, 12, and 10 cores respectively. These chips are also expected to be showcased in part at Computex along with the new socket and X390 platform.
