Two More Threadripper Models Available Globally
AMD is announcing that two more of their Ryzen Threadripper processor models will be available in stores starting today. These are the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX and the Ryzen Threadripper 2920X. Both go in an X399 motherboard and are compatible with the TR4 CPU socket.
The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX is a 24-core, 48-thread processor running at 3.0GHz and boosts to 4.2GHz. It has 76MB of cache and is directly behind the flagship Threadripper 2990WX. In comparison, that CPU has 32-cores and 63-threads and has 80MB of cache, but has similar core and boost clocks.
Meanwhile, the new Threadripper 2920X is a 12-core, 24-thread processor with a 38MB cache. It has a higher baseclock of 3.5GHz and boosts up to 4.3GHz. Although unlike the 2970WX and the 2990WX which have 250W TDP, the 2920X equals the 2950X’ 180W TDP.
How Much are These AMD Threadripper Processors?
The Threadripper 2970WX has an MSRP of $1,299 USD. Meanwhile, the Threadripper 2920X costs almost half at $649 USD. See the table below for comparison with other second gen Ryzen Threadripper processors.
Aside from being available individually, these processors can now also be found inside pre-built systems. Alienware for example has their Area-51 Threadripper Edition systems with 2nd Gen Threadripper processors.
