AMD Announces Threadripper and Ryzen 3 Launch Date and Prices

The wait is over for AMD fans as CEO Dr. Lisa Subherself made the announcement this morning that Threadripper is here. The high end CPU from AMD is the first time in a long time that they are competing directly against Intel’s HEDT line. In fact, as demonstrated in the video announcement (seen below), it outperforms the Intel 7900X in Cinebench. More importantly, it costs a lot less than Intel’s options even with the new platform factored in.

These new processors use a new TR4 socket motherboard, supporting quad-channel DDR4 and plenty of PCIe lanes to go around. Unlike Intel, AMD opens up all 64-lanes, not just exclusive to the highest end CPU. At the same time, AMD is also announcing their entry level Ryzen 3 processors for AM4 motherboards.

AMD Ryzen 3 Price and Availability

The Ryzen 3 series will finally hit shelves soon on July 27. Two SKUs are available on launch and they both will be four-core, four-threaded units. The Ryzen 3 1300X runs at 3.5Ghz with a 3.7GHz turbo, while the Ryzen 3 1200 runs at 3.1GHz with a 3.4GHz turbo. The pricing information is not available yet as it is under embargo. Luckily, the wait is not too long.

AMD Threadripper Price and Availability

The AMD high-end desktop parts will be available on shelves early August. In typical AMD fashion, these are going to be very competitively priced against Intel’s HEDT line.

The top-end 16-core, 32-threaded Ryzen Threadripper 1950X will cost just $999. Meanwhile, the 12-core, 24-threaded Ryzen Threadripper 1920X will be $200 less tab $799. Both processors run at 4.0 GHz Turbo, although the 1950X starts at 3.4GHz while the 1920X starts at 3.5GHz.
