AMD has a longstanding history in the embedded graphics card market and continues to manufacture new models while offering excellent driver support. The company has just unveiled the E9550, which is the successor to the previous flagship, the E8950. This time, the E9550 is built on the 14nm FinFET manufacturing process and enjoys huge performance per watt improvements. To put this into perspective, the E8950 opted for the 28nm method. On another note, the E9550 has up to 5.8 TFLOPS Peak Single Precision, 36 Compute Units and 8GB of GDDR5 on a 256-bit memory bus. The product is also capable of 4K HEVC Decode and Encode support and has the typical board power remains under 95-watts.
As you can see from the image below, the E9550 features an MXM Type-B design and includes 6 DisplayPorts. According to the information from AMD, it doesn’t seem likely that a PCI-E version will be offered in the same vein as the E9260. Whatever the case, the E9550 is a significantly more powerful product and should be useful for digital signage, medical computing and powering the latest and greatest gambling machines. This makes the product quite versatile and I’m sure it will be a good earner for AMD.
