An insider has revealed that AMD is set to divulge information on its next-gen CPU and GPU technologies very soon. At a Sunnyvale event on 16th May, the company will discuss its new Navi and Zen 2 (otherwise known as Zen+) CPU and Vega GPU architectures, according to WCCFTech.
“AMD will finally be disclosing more information about its next generation CPU & graphics architectures Vega, Navi and Zen+ in 10 days,” WCCFTech’s Khalid Moammer reports. “The company is set to unveil its long-term CPU & graphics roadmaps for 2017 and beyond in a little over a week, sources close to AMD have told us.”
Moammer stresses that this is not an official launch event, but rather a broader discussion of AMD’s future. Its future plans, though, rely heavily on its new architectures.
“AMD’s CTO Mark Papermaster, RTG Chief Architect Raja Koduri and Computing & Graphics head Jim Anderson will all join CEO Lisa Su on stage at the company’s headquarters in Sunnyvale to discuss AMD’s long-term vision,” Moammer explains. “Vega, Navi and Zen+ cores will take center stage. This will not be a Vega launch.”
AMD is on course to launch its Vega architecture before the end of June. Navi, the GPU generation beyond Vega, won’t emerge until sometime in 2018. Zen 2 is expected early 2018 in the form of the Pinnacle Ridge CPU family.
With Vega just around the corner, we’ve compiled a handy round-up of everything we know about GPU architecture.
