This next-generation chip, codenamed “Shimada Peak,” has surfaced in shipping manifests, revealing its potential to set new benchmarks in computing performance. Specifications and Performance
The Threadripper 9000 series will use AMD’s latest Zen 5 architecture, which promises a 16% increase in instructions per cycle (IPC) compared to Zen 4. The flagship model is expected to feature 96 cores with Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), delivering a staggering 192 threads. The CPU will consist of 12 CCDs (Core Complex Dies), each with eight cores and 32MB of L3 cache, summing up to 384MB for the entire chip. These processors will continue to support the existing sTR5 socket, ensuring compatibility with current motherboards.
While the exact clock speeds and thermal design power (TDP) remain under wraps, it is anticipated that the 96-core model could retain the same 350W TDP as the current Threadripper Pro 7995WX.
