AMD Unveils Threadripper 9000 Series with Up to 96 Cores

AMD is set to revolutionize the high-end desktop (HEDT) market with its new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series, featuring up to 96 cores and 192 threads. This next-generation chip, codenamed “Shimada Peak,” has surfaced in shipping manifests, revealing its potential to set new benchmarks in computing performance. Twitter user Olrak29 initially spotted the shipping details, adding to the excitement around AMD’s latest offering.

Specifications and Performance

The Threadripper 9000 series will use AMD’s latest Zen 5 architecture, which promises a 16% increase in instructions per cycle (IPC) compared to Zen 4. The flagship model is expected to feature 96 cores with Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), delivering a staggering 192 threads. The CPU will consist of 12 CCDs (Core Complex Dies), each with eight cores and 32MB of L3 cache, summing up to 384MB for the entire chip. These processors will continue to support the existing sTR5 socket, ensuring compatibility with current motherboards.

While the exact clock speeds and thermal design power (TDP) remain under wraps, it is anticipated that the 96-core model could retain the same 350W TDP as the current Threadripper Pro 7995WX.

Market Expectations and Release Timeline

Despite the leaks, AMD has yet to confirm an official release date for the Threadripper 9000 series. Speculation suggests an announcement could come as early as October 10, during an AMD event. If previous release patterns are any indication, these powerful new processors could arrive in the market by next year.

With these specifications and features, the Threadripper 9000 series is poised to make a significant impact on the workstation and high-end desktop segments, further solidifying AMD’s position in the CPU market.
