AMD Vega 10 May Arrive Within the Year

With every new information leak, it seems that the launch dates for new releases keeps changing. Earlier in the year, reports came out that AMD was planning to release Vega 10 in October. Since then, the Sunnyvale company has suggested we wouldn’t see any Vega GPUs till next year. Now a new report has come out we may be seeing our first Vega 10 GPU at the tail end of this year.

According to the source, AMD will be showing off  Vega 10 before the end of the year. This may coincide with a new “Magnum” board which is the company’s first FPGA aimed squarely at the embedded market. AMD has increasingly been turning their focus to gain back more marketshare in the lucrative professional and enterprise market. This may mean we won’t be seeing the Radeon Vega 10 this year, with perhaps a Radeon PRO model launching first. That would be in line with other reports that have surfaced in the past couple of months.

So far, we already know that Vega 10 has reached a major milestone, something AMD revealed themselves. The company also teased a supposed launch venue for Vega but its hard to read much into it. Along with HBM2, Vega is set to bring some tweaks to the architecture which is supposedly drastically different to the GCN we’ve been used to. Along with the new architecture, we’re also getting good clock speed boosts and efficiency gains to boot. Hopefully, we’ll get a challenger to what Nvidia has to offer on the high-end soon.
