The first listings for AMD‘s X870 motherboards have surfaced, with the official launch date confirmed for September 30, 2024. Major motherboard manufacturers, including Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI, are introducing their new products based on the X870 and X870E chipsets, with prices starting at £200 for entry-level models and going significantly higher for premium options. These boards are designed to support AMD’s latest Ryzen 9000 series, but also maintain compatibility with Ryzen 7000 and above processors.
Detailed Pricing and Features of X870 Boards
Asus has unveiled a comprehensive lineup of motherboards, including models like the ROG Crosshair X870E Hero, priced at £472.69, and the more affordable Prime X870-P WiFi, starting at £213.46. Gigabyte is also offering competitive models such as the X870 Aorus Elite WiFi 7, starting at £225.37. According to reports, these new boards will feature PCIe Gen 5 x16 slots for graphics cards and Gen 5 M.2 slots for faster storage.
A key feature across many of the new boards is the inclusion of robust power delivery systems to handle even the most demanding Ryzen CPUs. Asus models are expected to include new features like a quick-release mechanism for easy GPU removal, while Gigabyte models are known for their simplified locking system and expanded I/O options, such as multiple USB 3.2 and USB 4 ports.
For those considering an upgrade, it’s important to note that existing X670 and B650 motherboards also fully support Ryzen 9000 processors, often at a lower cost.
