AMD has confirmed that the next-generation “Zen 5” architecture will be using the Ryzen 8000 branding and won’t be skipping up to 9000 Series like the previous two generations.
Ryzen 8000 Zen 5 Confirmed
The information surrounding Zen 5 was shared by Harakaze5719 on Twitter (via Techpowerup) where AMD had revealed the information at one of its Meet the Experts presentations to the retail channel vendors. At this presentation, AMD confirmed that the desktop branding of the next-generation “Zen 5” architecture would be released under the Ryzen 8000 series which goes against the 1000 number sequence skipping of the previous 3000-5000-7000 generations. Zen 5 is expected to be under the name “Granite Ridge” and set to feature up to 16 CPU cores across two CCDs on its top-spec chip likely to be the 8950X.
Navi 3.5
Also revealed in this presentation was the first mention of “Navi 3.5” an improvement over the Navi 3.0 generation RX 7000 series GPU architecture. This architecture could see the die shrink down to TSMC 4nm or even 3nm providing more headroom for higher clock speeds. It’s possible Navi 3.5 could be used for a refresh of 7000 series cards or just for the next generation 8000 series.
