AMD Zen CPU ES Specs Leaked

One of the most highly anticipated releases of the year is Zen. Teased several times over the past year by AMD, the new CPU architecture is set to bring about 40% IPC boost over their current top offerings. During previous demos, AMD has told us they’ve been already using engineering samples but we’re now getting more details about the specifications courtesy of a rumoured leak, but remember to take it with a pinch of salt.

According to the leak, there are currently 4 Zen ES samples out right now. These are the AM4 8 cores with 95W TDP and AM4 4 cores with 65W TDP as well as SP3 24 cores with 150W TDP and SP3 32 cores with 180W TDP. You may notice that the TDP is actually quite low and once you factor in SMT, it seems that AMD has made massive strides in the power efficiency section.

The 4 core variant will feature 2MB of L2 and 8MB of L3 which is actually quite large but well within AMD’s standard design practices. The 8 core variants gets double as expected. Clocks speeds are at 2.8 GHz stock and 3.2 GHz boost, as expected based on previous leaks. The 24 core and 32 core variants get the same ratio of cache as well.

With ES chips running around, it probably won’t be long till AMD releases Zen, maybe as soon as October. We can expect higher clocks on the final variants so it’ll be interesting to see where Zen will end up on 14nm FinFET and what overclocking will be like.
