AMD’s FSR 3 technology has today officially been released which uses advanced temporal upscaling technology and Motion Fluid Frames similar to that of Frame Generation Technology in NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.
FSR 3 In Forspoken
Today a patch has been released for Forspoken which brings in FSR 3 support making it the first game to feature the new technology. The patch notes state that FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 support has been added and this will be available to use on cards as old as Radeon RX 5000, RTX 20 Series and ARC 7 series cards. Square Enix has also pointed out an issue with 240Hz+ refresh rates which causes some low frame rates when using FSR3 with VSync
AMD themselves have shared some performance figures for FSR 3 in Forspoken using Ultra-High RayTracing settings on the RX 7900 XTX, RX 7800 XT and RX 6800XT at 4K and the RX 6750 XT, RX 7600 and RX 6650 XT at 1440p. The charts show some very good frame rate improvements with each card sitting over 100 FPS after using FSR 3.
FSR 3 will be added to more games in the future including Immortals of Aveum later today, the best feature is that FSR isn’t limited to Radeons RX 7000 series unlike NVIDIA limiting their latest DLSS technology to the RTX 40 series, though granted the overall quality of DLSS tends to be better.
