AMD’s Trinity for desktops delayed

AMD’s Trinity APUs have already debuted for the mobile platforms, and it seems AMD will have plenty of stock available for the “back-to-school” notebook buying bonanza. Yet it’s desktop counterpart is struggling. According to motherboard industry sources and Global Foundries (who actually manufacture Trinity APUs) there is uncertainty about when Trinity for desktops will arrive.

Motherboard manufacturers were all ready for the desktop Trinity APUs with an extensive armoury of FM2 A75 and A85 motherboards at Computex 2012. Yet none of them know when Trinity will launch for desktops, estimates range from September to November depending on the source. Global Foundries have stated the reason for the delay is issues with the Trinity yields, a familiar problem. AMD’s Llano FM1 APU yields also experienced similar shortcomings that didn’t delay the launch but meant stock was few and far between.
