American Truck Simulator, the successor to the oddly popular trucking sim game, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is set to release next week on February the 3rd. To whet the appetite of all the potential truckers out there, developer SCS Software have released a short trailer for the game, showing off the painstakingly recreated American landscapes that feature in the game.
Truck driving may seem like an odd premise for a game, lacking many of the features that make driving games glamorous and exciting. Instead, fast cars and thrills are replaced with 20 tons of trailer and hundreds of miles of road to cover to make your delivery deadline (while obeying road laws). For anyone yet to give Euro Truck Simulator a try, this may seem very droll, but SCS’ finely crafted games bring a lot of fun and charm to their simulation games and it’s easy to find yourself whiling away the hours towing digital cargo through cities and countryside.
Currently, ATS is set to include two real-world truck manufacturers, Peterbilt and Kenworth, with the ability to drive their vehicles across the states of California and Nevada. Both of these are set to expand later, for free no less, with the state of Arizona to be added as free DLC and new trucks will spring up as SCS are able to license them, just like in their previous game.
As someone who has sunk a surprising number of hours into the Euro outing of SCS trucking simulator, I’m excited to see what new features will be added into American Truck Simulator. I’m not sure there’ll be CB radio chatter, but I’m sure there are thousands of miles of road complete with beautiful scenery to get lost in. Give the game a chance, and it might just surprise.
