Android Sees Minor Dip In American Market Share, Still Has 51.6%

The latest figures by mobile analytic firm comScore MobiLens suggests that Android continues to dominate the American smartphone market but has seen a slight decline as Apple and Microsoft improved their market shares. For the third quarter of 2013 Android lost 0.8% market share in the USA, Blackberry also lost 0.8% and Nokia’s Symbian lost 0.1%. Those losses were capitalised on by Microsoft who boosted market share by 0.2% and Apple who did so by 1.5%. For Blackberry the loss of 0.8% is a huge blow as that means almost a 20% drop in their overall U.S market presence in just a 3 month period. Microsoft’s increase of 0.2% is also significant as that’s nearly an increase in 10% of their market presence for the USA.

In terms of which smartphone makers did the best, naturally Apple tops the leader-board as it is the only iOS smartphone vendor out there. Despite Android being top of the overall pack in terms of OS share, Samsung fall well behind Apple with 24.3% of the market compared to Apple’s 40.7%. HTC, Motorola and LG come third, fourth and fifth primarily selling Android handsets. HTC and Motorola both lost ground as Apple and Samsung consolidated their smartphone dominance.
