Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Angelbird SSD wrk 256GB is a solid performer as clearly shown by our benchmarks on the previous pages, but that doesn’t mean that this drive has to cost a fortune. The final MSRP at release is $159.99, €124,92 and £99.96 for the 256GB model. There aren’t that many resellers for this brand yet, but I’m sure that will change very soon. This isn’t the last we’ve seen from Angelbird. If this review got you interested, you can find the complete list of resellers on the official page or head straight over to MegaMac’s Angelbird site.

Overview

This was the first Angelbird product I had the pleasure to get my hands on and I can honestly say, I hope it wasn’t the last. Having the Angelbird SSD wrk 256GB on the test-bench was a real joy and it didn’t let me down. This would make a great boot-drive in any budget build, and ever enthusiast.

The performance was rock solid all the way through the tests. It didn’t matter how much I filled the drive with data, the benchmarks just kept throwing out the same impressive numbers. While the drive does lack a little bit on the side of write speeds, the read speeds more then convince us. Considering the price of the drive on top of those figures, it’s really a no-brainer. It also comes with an activation code, and a QR code for those who use those,  to activate the additional warranty and software in a breeze.

The design is another thing I really liked about this SSD wrk SSD, setting it apart from the rest. Built in a anodized-aluminium solid-frame and with it’s unique slide-out mechanism, this isn’t what you see every day. Where the exterior shines, so does the interior. The Silicon Motion 2246EN controller paired with the custom packed 20nm NAND give this drive the performance to last.

“The high reading speeds and consistent performance make the Angelbird SSD wrk 256GB a solid buy. Coupled with the low price per GB of storage and the beautiful design it’s a hard drive to ignore. The SSDwrk 256GB would make a great boot-drive in any system.”

Pros:

  • High reading speeds
  • Long-term reliable performance
  • Beautiful and unique design
  • 3 year warranty
  • Low price per GB

Cons:

  • Write speeds are on the low side

Neutral:

  • No 3½” adapter bracket
Bang-For-Buck
