Antec C400 & A40 Pro CPU Air Cooler Review

There’s certainly a big difference between the two here. The C400 managed to clock in far down the chart, at just +23c at load, while the smaller A40 was +33c at load. That difference isn’t surprising though, they’re both different sizes after all. Of course, both did a perfectly fine job and passed this first test.

Overclocking took the Antec A40 up to +56c, which seems quite warm, but that’s on par with the MasterAir Pro 3 and be quiet! Pure Rock Slim, which are both very nice coolers too, so it’s competitive in this price range. The C400 faired well too, clocking in +50c, putting it on par with the more expensive MasterLiquid 120, and Gigabyte XTC700, so that’s certainly great value for money.

Interestingly, both the A40 and C400 recorded very similar scores. Both of these coolers clocked in at a whisper quiet 36dBa at stock loads.

Pushing the overclocks mixed things up a little bit, with the larger fan of the C400 maintaining a steady 40dBa, while the A40 had to work a little harder, and topped out at 42dBa under load.
