A Closer Look – Interior


This Antec unit is based on FSP’s Aurum platform. This FSP platform uses an Active Clamp Reset Forward (ACRP) topology to achieve 80 Plus Platinum Efficiency. This platform is one of the newer and more innovative on the market and so definitely makes for a solid quality PSU.

Antec EarthWatts Platinum 550W (4)

A YateLoon D12BH-12 120mm fan is used to cool this unit. Given its high efficiency it doesn’t need that much cooling hence only a 120mm, not 135mm, fan.

The AC receptacle starts transient filtering with two Y caps.

Antec EarthWatts Platinum 550W (8)

On the main PCB additional components provide transient filtering including X caps, Y caps, CM chokes and an MOV.

Antec EarthWatts Platinum 550W (9)

The primary hold up cap is made by the Chinese company CapXon and is rated for 85 degrees celsius, 420V and 270 uF.

Antec EarthWatts Platinum 550W (6)

An abundance of 105 degrees celsius rated Nippon Chemi-Con, Rubycon and CapXcon capacitors provide regulation for the rails.
