Antec GX500 Window Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Antec GX500 was designed to be attractive to those on a tight budget and that much is certainly true. At just £39.95 from Overclockers UK it is obviously affordable, leaving more of your budget to spend on the fun stuff like graphics cards and other hardware.

Overview

The Antec GX500 is nothing fancy, there’s no sugar-coating that. It’s a pretty simple chassis with a modest range of features and a budget friendly price tag. It’s not something particularly exciting overall, but it is obviously going to be an attractive option for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money on a gaming chassis.

Antec has done a great job packing in plenty of features for this price range, such as a good range of cooling support and a few pre-installed fans, a built-in fan controller with two channels and two speeds, side panel window, cable management (albeit limited) and the design is pretty neat and tidy too.

The aesthetics are obviously subjective, and it’s clear this chassis is made from thin steel and a fair amount of plastic, but overall I think Antec has done a good job giving it a neat and tidy appearance that wouldn’t look out of place as a gaming rig, or even in an office. The cable routing could certainly be improved by making the area behind the motherboard much bigger, as it’s quite tight as it is, even with the raised section of the side panel, but other than that, I can’t find much wrong with it.

It’s an attractive solution for a single-GPU system, as there’s lots of clearance for a long GPU, you can easily fit a high-end PSU, a good amount of storage drives and some decent air cooling; those looking for a dual-GPU system may want to look for something a little bit bigger.

Pros

  • Very competitive price
  • Two pre-installed fans
  • Fan controller
  • Side panel window
  • Tidy aesthetics

Cons

  • Cable management space is a little limited
  • Not ideal for multi-GPU configrations

“The GX500 offers a good range of features at a very reasonable price, making it a very competitive solution for those building a single-GPU gaming system.”
