Antec HCG 620W Power Supply Review
A Closer Look – Interior
The unit is manufactured by Seasonic and OEM produced for Antec. It is based on the SeaSonic S12II 620.
The unit has an ADDA 135mm fan with dual ball bearings and the part number ADN512MB-A90.
The rear AC input has EMI/transient filtering on a small PCB with one X and four Y capacitors as well as a coil.
The PCB features additional filtering components and coils.
The main capacitor is a Nippon Chemi-Con part rated for 85°C, 560 μF, 400 V.
Black passive heatsinks are strategically placed throughout the unit for heat-disippation. We can see lots more Nippon Chemi-Con filtering capacitors dotted around these heatsinks and these are rated for 105 degrees.
There is a vertical PCB providing the PFC/PWM controls.
There is a separate PCB for the modular connectors, each block with capacitors for additional regulation and filtering.
It’s all the PSU 95% of people will ever need. Why cough up for a gold or platinum certified PSU? You’ll never be able to recoup the extra money spent on that PSU on your electricity bill.
While it is important to use a quality, efficient PSU, the bronze, silver, gold & platinum rating is more about marketing and the excuse to charge more. It all means very little to the end user but a lot of purchasers base their purchase on high wattage & colour certification alone.
I would’ve liked to have seen the main cap a 105 deg. rated Nippon Chemi-con instead of 85 but that makes little to no difference.
