In this hot load test we take the PSU out of an ideal scenario and put it in a more realistic one, the PSU has to work in an ambient temperature of around 40^oC which is much higher than the temperature of a case. This tests the quality of the unit- temperatures that high are very unforgiving!

I generally find that low quality units suffer heavily when exposed to my hotbox- quality units are rated at high temperatures as we have seen from many of the major brands, this means that the unit will not fall out of it’s rated spec at high temperatures. The HCP-1200 is no exception to the rule, the voltages take a negligible hit and most importantly, the efficiency is virtually unaffected.
