How Much Does it Cost?

The AOC 24G2SPU 165Hz G-Sync Gaming Monitor is available right now with an MSRP of just £159.99, but it often sees regular daily discounts on Amazon that can save you anything from £10-20, which is pretty fantastic. Honestly though, even at the full price, this is a great investment. The only downside is the competition as Amazon has a bunch of cheaper models promising similar specifications, but typically from brands you or I have never heard of such as Z-Edge, CRUA, and X= to “name” but a few. If you want a quality product, pay a little extra and get something from a well-respected brand like AOC!

Overview

AOC has a very competitive monitor here, with the likes of Iiyama and ACER having some fairly similar models for around £20 less, but overall, the addition of features like G-Sync compatibility gives AOC a performance and features edge here. The next model to have like-for-like panel features comes from the Dell G2422HS which costs another £20, and doesn’t come with a portrait mode on its stand, so again, points to AOC here.

The out-of-the-box performance of some of those cheaper rivals is unlikely to be as good as what AOC is offering. I felt no need to perform any calibration or adjustment to the OSD to get a really great experience. Sure, you can adjust the brightness to suit your taste, but overall, the contrast, colours, and gamma were all good enough to be left well alone.

The 165Hz refresh rate is more than enough too, Typically, I find that once I get a little over 100 FPS I struggle to see or feel much of an improvement in my experience in most single-player titles. However, the higher the better for competitive games, as you’re shaving time off of your response times the higher you go, and at 165Hz, you most definitely will feel the difference in your shot accuracy.

I thought 24″ would feel lacking too, given I game on a 34″ 3440×1440 ultrawide, but honestly, it didn’t. I have it sat a few inches closer to me than I would a larger monitor but overall, that seems to be all the difference I needed to really get into a few games of Halo or get lost in my space pirate adventures in Starfield for a few hours.

Should I Buy One?

Absolutely, AOC is right on the money here in terms of features and specifications, offering one of the better panels in this price range, with a great refresh rate, accurate colours, and excellent ergonomics from the included stand. I highly recommend this display to anyone looking for a premium gaming experience without spending a fortune.
