AOC 27G2U 144Hz FreeSync Gaming Monitor Review

Performance
At 144hz, this monitor more than makes up for the resolution deficit. I’m a 4K gamer myself, and everyone else in the house games at 1440p, so dropping to 1080p is quite noticeable to me. However, I game at 60Hz/FPS and leaping to 144Hz adds a lot more detail to the image while gaming than you would expect. This is particularly true of FPS games, where extremely fast motion is more commonplace. You can see so much more clearly, and the 1ms response time and great colours on this panel all bring out the best in games like CS:GO, Overwatch, Halo Reach, etc.
The panel is a really good size too, at 27-inches isn’t not enormous, but even compared to my usual 32-inch monitor I didn’t find the size to be a limitation. At a typical desktop sitting, it presents movies, YouTube videos and similar content really well. The black levels look great, and even the brightness and contrast are pleasing. Not that I expected anything less, but the monitor clearly has more to offer than just a high refresh rate.
For productivity, it’s about the minimum I would accept. The desktop only has the 1920 x 1080 resolution to deal with, but for gaming that’s fine. If you’re after a work monitor, a 1440p version of this would give you a lot more flexibility for displaying more information on screen.
