How Much Does It Cost?

The AOC 27G2U/BK 27-Inch IPS LED 144Hz FreeSync Gaming Monitor is available now in the UK. We found it on Amazon for just £205.20, which is a great price for this level of features. However, I have seen it around £199 too, but prices are a little bit variable around Christmas and sales. That’s cheaper than most rival offerings from Acer, Samsung, and LG to name but a few. That’s the same price as the electriQ 27-inch monitor, and AOC has a bit more brand prestige, they just do, sorry electriQ.

Overview

I really like this monitor, and while it’s not without its flaws, its strengths far outweigh them. When I saw flaws, they’re honestly quite minor. The colour blue is a smidge to strong on the monitor, but that’s fixed with a little tinker in the OSD. Heck, even just running windows colour calibration gets that sorted out, no pro calibration needed. The OSD buttons are a little fiddly, but usable, and if I’m honest, I think the plastics look a bit cheap.

I did calibrate it professionally, and it did fix the colours a little, but not to the point you really would notice. A little warmer, but it was honestly subjectively “better”. For most of you, I think this monitor is ready to just plug, play and enjoy as it is.

Affordable Gaming

Of course, they used cheaper plastics, that’s fine, I think that’s fairly reflected in the price. It’s also not the best quality 1080p panel out there for colour reproduction. However, it’s honestly still a great looking panel to work and game on. A quick calibration can help, but I don’t think people who even consider calibration as an option are considering this monitor. If you’re eager to rip through Fortnite, Minecraft, or honestly, any game then it’s a bit of a bargain.

Loads of Features

Ultra-fast response times, super-fast refresh rates, a great panel size, good black levels, it’s all here. You’ll struggle to find anything better than this for the same price. Sure, give me another £100, and I’ll blow this out of the water, but for an entry-level pro-gaming monitor, it’s hardly spartan on features. FreeSync, great connectivity, built-in speakers, a USB hub, an adjustable stand. I mean, if you did want something with a little more of everything, the CQ32G1 is £329.99 but at around £200, you can’t deny that the G2 is an impressive monitor too.
