This is the day of motherboards to be shown, or so it appears. Gigabyte’s AORUS presented their take on the AM4 platform in detail this morning as they show off their GA-AX370-Gaming 5 motherboard in full details. And what a beauty it is, both in design and features.
With AORUS, we naturally get some cool and fancy LED light effects as well as headers to attach more LED strips, that’s a given. While LEDs can make the whole thing look cool, it doesn’t affect the performance as such – so let’s focus a bit more on all the details that we can spot on these photos.
The first thing that we notice are the shielded PCIe slots that provide a better stability when those heavy graphics cards are installed in them. All three PCI-Express x16 slots feature this and there are three normal PCIe x1 slots too for more add-in card.
The AORUS GA-AX370-Gaming 5 motherboard comes with dual-LAN, but not the same type. One is a Killer E2500 while the other is an Intel Gigabit powered one. Which exact model is difficult to spot, but my guess would be that it’s a 219. We can also spot a single PCIe x4 NVMe slot for modules with a length of up to 110mm, allowing you to install pretty much any compatible drive into it.
There are two USB 2.0 headers as well as two USB 3.0 headers for front-facing ports and extra USB-powered accessories. Other storage connectors include both SATA-Express, normal SATA3, and U.2 for a maximum compatibility. Other well-known Gigabyte features include the dual-BIOS and onboard buttons for power and instant overclocking. We also get the easy-to-see two-digit display for status and error codes along with all the other headers such as front-audio and TPM just as plenty of 4-pin fan connectors.
The rear IO features legacy connectors such as PS2 along with USB 2, USB 3, and the newest USB 3.1 ports in both Type-A and Type-C format. There’s 7.1 channel audio output along with an SPDIF connector for digital audio. Pretty much everything you’ll want, including an HDMI port for iGPU usage.
The rear of the board is quite unspectacular as it doesn’t feature anything except the cooler retention plate. However, it does show us the beautiful black PCB finish of this AORUS GA-AX370-Gaming 5. While this really looks great, I’m still hoping for a Gaming 7 version with similar features as my current Gigabyte Gaming 7 boards, such as dual M.2 slots for my NVMe RAID setup.
