AORUS Gaming K7 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

A Closer Look
The AORUS K7 comes hard-wired with a black USB cable, as well as a gold-plated USB header. I would prefer a fully removable USB cable, as it’s easier to transport the keyboard, and much easier to replace the cable should it suffer from damage.
The keyboard its self is pretty stunning, with a soft brushed aluminium finish that just oozes premium quality. It’s nice to see it finished with such a light texture too, a welcome break from the millions of black rectangles on the market.
The keycaps are of a good quality, laser etches and UV coated. The feel great under your fingers and are pretty durable. Of course, they’re standard MX Stem caps, so you could easily add customs ones of your own if desired.
Built-in Controls
The keyboard features built-in multimedia controls too, which are accessible via Fn-Shift. Unfortunately, no dedicated controls, but that does mean the keyboard is able to maintain a smaller footprint too, so pros and cons I guess. F1-F3 allow you to control your master volume levels.
Further along, we have the usual skip and play/pause controls.
Further along, some launchers too for music, web, and calculator should you need them.
If you don’t like desktop software to configure all your lighting, you’ll enjoy these buttons too. You can change the general lighting, effects and more in just a few clicks of the keyboard. For most people, this will be more than enough. Of course, you can quickly turn the lights off too if you’re trying to watch a movie and they’re distracting you.
AORUS
The overall build quality of the keyboard is fantastic though. The metal top cover design looks and feels fantastic. It’s reflective, but has a soft finish so that it’s not dazzling and it’s sure to look amazing with the RGB lighting power on; we’ll see that in a moment.
There’s a little bit of orange trim on the edge, which is the official AORUS colour so that does make sense. It’ll match up great with those custom orange keycaps they included in the box too.
On the underside, you’ll find four durable rubber grips, as well as two retractable feet to adjust the angle of the keyboard.
No Flip Feet?
Tired of those crappy flip up feet? Good, because this doesn’t have them!
Spin the dial at the back, and the feet will extend to your ideal hight. It’s a neat little trick, and one that I absolutely love.
The included keycap puller is handy, allowing you to easily clean and maintain your keys. Of course, it’s perfect for me to show you the switches too. They’re Cherry MX Red with the clear housing for brighter RGB lighting. They’re Cherry switches, so you know the quality you’re getting and if you’ve ever used a mechanical before, you know the performance you’re getting here.
Custom Caps
Check out those custom keycaps! You can put them on any similarly sized key too, and with eight of them included, you can map our your gaming keys easily enough.
For gaming, working, or just about anything really, the keyboard is pretty tight. The Cherry MX Red switches are fast, light and very responsive overall and aren’t too noisy as they don’t bottom out too hard on this keyboard. The rigid design of the keyboard does improve the typing experience too, with a good bounce to the switches and a sturdy and planted feel while mashing at the keys.
RGB
Of course, the performance is spot on, and there really aren’t any surprises here in that respect. However, the RGB lighting is a nice addition and allows plenty of customisation for picking your own effects or unique colour schemes.
There’s a lovely under-glow between the keycaps too, with that brushed aluminium design breaking up the light nicely.
Overall, the keyboard looks great on your desk, performs great when you’re gaming or working, and feels well made and great to use. What more could you really ask for?
