A Closer Look

Fans of the Gigabyte Aorus range will find the new Gaming 7 to look somewhat familiar. It’s more a revision of their existing designs than a reinvention, and that’s fine by me because this is a great looking motherboard. It uses a black PCB, with chrome highlights and a few touches of orange.

The heatsink design is impressive, with a direct contact fin array and heat pipe design. Without a doubt, this should shift some serious heat from the motherboard, which is excellent news for overclocking performance. The rear I/O guard is integrated too, and a shroud keeps things looking neat and tidy.

AM4

The socket is the usual AM4 one we know and love, so it’ll support all Ryzen CPUs, new and old.

There are four DIMM slots available, each fitted with some lovely RGB lighting and reinforcing armour to prevent the board from bending.

BIOS Controls

Another welcome feature is that there are fan headers dotted everywhere too, so cooling should be a breeze, pun intended. Next, you’ll find a handy BIOS debug LED and BIOS switches.

Storage

There are dual USB 3.0 headers and a USB 3.1 Type-C FP on the motherboard. Of course, you’ll find a few USB 2.0 headers also. For SATA, there are six high-speed ports taking care of your peripheral device needs.

For those who prefer something even faster, there are dual M.2 mounts. I love that they’ve included pretty robust looking heatsinks for each too. Not only do they look great, but they’ll help with performance too. Finally, three full-size PCIe slots, each fitted with armour to protect the board from the weight of modern GPUs. Plus, once again, they also look great.

Rear I/O

We need to see this on all motherboards, a built-in rear I/O cover, so you can’t forget to install this one! The rear is packed with great things too, with a staggering amount of USB ports, plenty of audio, Ethernet, WiFi, and even power and BIOS controls.

As if this motherboard didn’t look robust enough, it comes with a huge plate of armour on the rear too. I imagine this would look great in dual sides glass chassis.
