Aorus XTREME RTX 2070 Graphics Card Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme is available now from most major retailers. It’s one of the fastest and most extreme graphics cards on the market today, so it comes with a price that hurts the ol’ wallet. I’ve seen prices fighting around the £1399.98 area, some a bit cheaper, but it’s hard to nail the real price over Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend. Check with your local retailers of choice for up to date prices. Either way, don’t expect it to be cheap.

Overview

I absolutely love this card, but that price is a real kick in the pants. It’s not the fault of Aorus though, they’re working on the same margins as everyone else when it comes to the Nvidia chipsets. You can pick up a 2080 Ti for around £1200, which is expensive. However, if you want one of the flagship models like the one we tested, then £1400 is competitive with other brands offerings.

Performance

If this was the Olympics, the Aorus Xtreme would be walking away with a LOT of gold medals. Regarding performance, it’s absolutely brutal. I’m shocked just how far ahead it was compared to the (relatively) stock Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti. A binned chipset, a bigger cooler, and some overclocks are here, but they’re still basically the same underlying cards. However, it’s night and day how much faster this model is and it certainly shows where your extra £200 goes investing in a high-end model of the same generation.

Build Quality

All of the Aorus Xtreme cards look identical, with the same cooler, backplate, addressable RGB lighting, and display connections. However, that’s no bad thing, as it’s a superb design. Maybe a little “gamer” looking for some, as it does look cartoonishly over the top with the lighting and weird shroud. However, I think it looks fantastic, and the triple 100mm fans, the thick backplate, the support arm, it all adds up to a quality product. Plus, with a four-year warranty backing it up, it seems Aorus are confident in its quality too.

Should I Buy One?

I’m not so ignorant that I would suggest people go out an buy a £1400 graphics card. This is way above the remit of the average consumer, and if firmly in prosumer and enthusiast territory. If you’re already rocking a very high-end PC, with a high-end monitor, and want something that completes that picture, you’ll struggle to find anything better. This is without a doubt the fastest gaming card we’ve ever tested.
