Apacer AS682 ARMOR+ 250GB Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Apacer AS682 Armor+ 250GB drive hasn’t fully reached the market yet, but Apacer revealed that it will launch in early December for an MSRP of $72.99.

Overview

While Apacer isn’t one of the first companies that we think of when it comes to storage, they do have a solid presence and they deserve to be part of the market as we’ve just seen on the previous pages. The Apacer AS682 Armor+ performed very well in the tested 250GB version and it should do even better in its 500GB version.

Both features and performance are covered well and we have the basics such as NCQ, Trim, and SMART as well as more advanced features such as global wear leveling and error correction code. Performance wise it placed very well in the charts and although it didn’t score the top slot, it did well and beat a lot of competition drives in the comparison. One of the common problems with TLC-based drives is the performance under continuous sequential writes, but the AS682 did well here too. While there are drops, we still stay above the performance of a 2.5-inch mechanical drive and that’s what the drive is meant to replace.

All that is wrapped in a beautiful enclosure that stands out from other solid state drives with the beautiful logo on the front instead of a sticker. The case also seems more stable and better protected against shocks than the usual 2-piece snap-together casings we see these days.

Pros

  • Good features
  • Solid performance
  • Beautiful casing

Cons

  • TLC-based SSDs are cheaper, but also slower on continuous writes

“Overall, the Apacer AS682 Armor+ does a great job and it is a drive well worth getting. It is a good replacement for both portable and stationary systems that want faster boot and app loading times.”
