Apacer Introduces AS330 PANTHER SSD
Bohs Hansen / 7 years ago
Apacer released a new product in their PANTHER series and this time it is an SSD called the AS330. We have previously seen memory modules in this series and now you can get an SSD to match.
Apacer AS330
The Apacer AS330 is a classic SSD in a 2.5-inch form factor, using the SATA 3 interface. That sets some limits in regards to speed, but at the same time, it allows the drive to be compatible with most systems. The drive is designed to be a replacement for a mechanical hard disk drive and it is superior to that in every way. It is smaller, lighter, uses less power, and delivers a better performance.
Apacer built the AS330 with TLC NAND which allows it to be a budget drive. The controller is an 8-channel model, but it isn’t specified which.
Performance Ratings
With a SATA3 interface, we’re limited to 6Gbps throughput. The AS330 uses the interface well and is able to deliver speeds up to 545 MB/s when reading and 520MB/s when writing. That is the largest model with 1TB capacity. Smaller models will perform slightly slower. The random write performance is rated at 39K IOPS. That’s not a lot, but it’s due to the TLC NAND.
Besides the 1TB model, Apacer launches 12GB, 240GB, and 480GB models.
Features
You naturally get the basic features such as SMART and TRIM, but also an advanced wear-levelling algorithm and Error Correction Code for improved endurance. The PANTHER also supports the DEVSLP mode for the lowest possible power consumption during hibernation.
Pricing and Availability
The new Apacer PANTHER series is available now, at least in some of the capacities. Scan UK is one retailer that already lists the drive and here you can get the 120GB model for £51.49 at the time of writing. Apacer backs the series with a 3-year warranty.
